This is amazing to look through. The art is stellar and the lore is captivating. While not all faeries were given proper descriptions, you could clearly tell their characteristics just by looking at them. There is some partial nudity, but nothing beyond that. The book is pretty big, so it can't actually fit in my shelf; that's a bummer.

The odd thing about the book is the way they chose to divide the Good Faeries from the Bad Faeries. Instead of seamlessly going from front to back (as usual), you actually have to flip the book around. This makes it very inconvenience for me, since my desk space is rather limited.

An amazing book filled with mysterious faeries both good and bad. The art work is beautiful. The folklore makes you think of a time of magical beings. This leads you to wonder … Could I see them today? Are they there just beyond the veil?
This book is sensational. I'm a huge Froud fan to begin with, but this book is by far...my ultimate favorite. It is put together so ingeniously, the writing and images leave you with a haunting feeling that is reminiscent of childhood imagination and pure Faery Magic. Will induce a case of the goosebumps each time you flip through it's pages, if you believe in Faeries, then you'll know what I mean ;-) Good Faeries/Bad Faeries is presented in such a unique and imaginative way that you cannot help yourself but to get lost within it's amazing World of Wonder.
I love the artwork - it brings back alot of happy memories to have this book again. I had it years ago when I was 14 but my sister let a friend borrow it and I never saw it again. So it's exactly as I remember. Love it!
Brian Froud has found his place an authority on the fae for good reason. This was a fun read with numerous depictions of the faerys populating Mr. Froud's world. I had to take one star because I began to notice that so many of his faery's looked so much alike. After all, if they each have the own agenda and culture why would they mostly have the same body type and facial features. I decided to accept it as a slice of faerys inhabiting Mr. Froud's world.
I love the art of Brian Froud and this book does not disappoint his fans or readers who seek to learn about the many types of fae-beings he has imagined. His voice even alternates in his writing with the voice of faeries from the realm. The book defines Good Faeries and Bad Faeries and there is a section in the middle that delights! The Good Faerie can be turned upside down to see a completely different (probably bad) faerie, and vice versa as the Bad Faeries section approaches the Good Faeries. There is some nudity among his fae-beings. The drawings and paintings are beautifully rendered and informative.
Ordered this and got it promptly shipped. Was absolutely beautiful, the book in perfect condition. I adore Brian Froud's work! I would suggest that if you're buying this for children that you understand that many of the faeries are in the nude, so if you are a bit more on the conservative side, please take that into consideration. My family has excitedly perused the pages and begun their journey on learning everything from water fay to faeries named Grig, and love the artwork exceedingly. Mr. Froud's enchanting prose to accompany the fanciful and whimsical artwork, allowing us a peek into his mind and state as he created this world of faeries for us, has been really enjoyable. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn more of the world of the Fae!
Froud's art is, as always, tremendously beautiful. There is a uniqueness to his work which makes it exceptionally poignant and unforgettable. He, along with Tony DiTerlizzi, is one of the only artists I know of that have such talent. The reason I'm only giving this four stars, though, is that I was expecting it to be more of a field guide of the Faery world. It's more a collection of Froud's art than anything else. The writing is rather light, and not very fleshed out. Some images don't have an explanation as to what they are representing, and when they do, it is often only a few lines that doesn't tell the reader much. If you're more interested in the art aspect than the lore of the Faery world, or a huge fan of Froud like myself, then buy this book!
